Welcome to the Women’s Electoral Lobby

WELSA are an intergenerational and diverse group of feminists who have come together, as a non-partisan group of individuals, focussed on setting our priorities for the upcoming
elections. We acknowledge that this year new political possibilities have opened up for
advocacy on issues important to women.
Our mission is to take action in an inclusive and intersectional manner, to further a political
agenda and persuade South Australian voters to cast their vote for feminist policies and
candidates.
For nearly 50 years, WEL has been advocating for equality and justice for all women. We
carry out important research and campaigns to knock down the barriers that hold women
back from a life of dignity, safety and independence.
The history of the Women’s Electoral Lobby is very well documented in the book “Making
Women Count” by Marian Sawer with Gail Radford. The book can be purchased from UNSW

As a member of WEL SA, you will help shape the campaign direction and topics. For this State Election WEL SA is campaigning on:

  • Pandemic recovery
  • Reducing and eliminating violence against women and children
  • Climate and environmental crises
  • Work
  • Housing
  • Education and training
  • Health

For this state election we are meeting the leaders of the three major parties. MPs are re-contesting their seats in addition to new candidates. Candidates will be surveyed by questionnaire. The purpose of the exercise is to present a list of priorities raised with WEL-SA by South Australian women, and to record the candidates’ responses to these issues. Click here to see the survey.
All the candidates’ responses received will be consolidated and published as a scorecard to
inform voters. The responses to this letter will be published on the welsa.org.au website.
Sign up to WelSA to receive the scorecard straight into your inbox.
